You can go to the CBD or you can go to the small suburbs like Brunswick, Prahan or Fitzroy. I've listed my experiences with shopping in Melbourne below, and I hope it's useful to you.

Looking for new, nice and cheap clothes, shoes etc., it's worth to check out these stores.

Shopping Mall's
If you don't know want you're looking for or just want to go shopping with your friends, check these shopping mall's out on:

Melbourne Central Station

Second-hand
Are you more into second hand and vintage clothes, Melbourne has a lot to offer.

Fitzroy + Brunswick – tons of small, sweet, weird, cozy and nice vintage stores with clothes both for men and women. If you're not into vintage, take a look anyway! You can always find a dress or a pair of shoes you didn't know you were missing.

Savers(Sydney road, Brunswick)Really cheep, used clothes, shoes, furnitures, sports equipment, suitcases etc. for women and men. It can be a big mouthful so take your time while being there.
